Twitters of Elliote Friedman, Kevin Allen, and Bob McKenzie confirm and allow us to start piecing this thing together, and Dreger was on TSN confirming:
Couple of interesting tid-bits.

Kabrele to San Jose? Would Burke lend us an ear? I bet he would if the price were right.

More interesting to me was Phaneuf's quote in regards to being delt..."If Gretzky can get traded anyone can"
What a douchebag. I hope the Toronto locker room is large enough for Dions ego.

Just minutes after playing more than 15 minutes for the Calgary Flames, Olli Jokinen became the newest member of the New York Rangers.

Jokinen, 31, along with forward Brandon Prust, were officially traded to the Blueshirts after Calgary's 3-0 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday night in exchange for forwards Ales Kotalik and Christopher Higgins.

Rumors of the trade were first published on Sunday night -- just hours after the Flames completed a seven-player blockbuster that sent defenseman Dion Phaneuf to Tornton.

Jokinen has 11 goals and 24 assists in 56 games with the Flames this season. He was acquired by the Flames from Phoenix at last season's trade deadline. Prust, 25, has one goal, four assists and 98 penalty minutes.

Higgins was acquired by the Rangers last summer in the deal that sent Scott Gomez to the Montreal Canadiens. He had six goals and eight assists in 55 games.

Kotalik signed a three-year deal worth $9 million with New York prior to the start of the season. He had just eight goals and 14 assists in 45 contests.

Those three sites confirm that:

(CGY) traded Phanuef, Aulie, and Sjostrom for (TOR) Stajan, White, Hagman, and Mayers.

(ANA) traded Giguere for (TOR) Toskala and Blake.

What a crazy day for trades.

Will Sutton get a suspension for this hit?
IMO, he should get a nice unpaid vacation for a couple weeks.:boarding:

2010: NHL Trade Deadline

The deadline has been set for March 3, 2010. This is just a few days after the Olympics finish. I also read earlier today there is to be a freeze in trades during the Olympics that goes into effect Feb. 12 at midnight (yet to confirm).

Obviously the Sharks money is invested in their forwards at top two defense men. Obviously the Sharks lack depth in the defense. Obviously we have too many players that can be "enforcers".

I've heard some chatter already that there are a couple of NHL teams making it known who will be available for trade.

Most of the chatter I've heard is about team/s in the East. The east is a funny place. The big rumor is Ilya Kovalchuck. He'll be the big target for forward, though he'll likely be a rental as he becomes a free agent in '10/'11. Right now in the East, there are only two teams that are likely "out" of the playoff picture. I use out, in the perspective that they've been crap all year and in the next month will likely be crap as the deadline will rapidly approach with the Olympics. Carolina and Toronto. All I can say to DW is good luck in dealing with Toronto, RW and Burke. Tampa sucks (13 spot), but they're only 6 points out of the 8 spot (Montreal 48 points)?!? It will be interesting to see what they do come February?

The West is a whole other can of worms. There are about two or three "elite teams" and a couple others that I see as locks to make the playoffs. Then there are the Stars and Wings that are on the outside looking in and I see those two teams making the top eight and bumping out a couple of others that won't make the stretch unless they get some serious help via the trade deadline. Minnesota were an absolute disaster in October and part of November. They were locked into last place in the West. The Wild are now just behind Dallas (10 spot) and Detroit (9 spot) only 6 points behind LA in the eight spot with 53 points. The Wild have a boatload of FA next season. Finally, Anaheim, behind the Wild by 2 points, Selanne, Koivu and Niedermayer are the big names on the block there. I want to mention Edmonton too who with injuries and youth have gone down in blazes the past couple of months. Staios and Souray ($5.?million) are a couple of names coming out of the Great White North.

Salary cap are issues for both the Sharks and Blackhawks in the West as obviously the two best teams.
In the East, as I understand, the Caps are at cap (haha I got a pun in) and I don't know spit about anyone else in the East, aside from teams looking to dump salary soon to save coin.

Who would you like to see the Sharks go after to bolster their roster for the playoff run?
The Sharks pretty much a lock to make the playoffs, even if they play .500 for the rest of the season... and if they keep up their cocky, cutsie, fancy arse play, they just might go .500 at best.

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA(AP) —Calgary Flames coach Brent Sutter is upset security couldn’t locate a laser pointer being used to distract goalie Miikka Kiprusoff(notes) during Saturday s 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks.

“It’s ridiculous,” Sutter said. “We could see it shining on his mask the whole night. It was brought to the attention of the refs and security, and it’s hard to believe that can go on for 60 minutes in a hockey game and it’s not located.”

Kiprusoff made 19 saves and stopped one of three shots in the shootout. He received medical treatment after the game, and wasn’t immediately available to the media.

“It was a distraction,” Sutter said.
