FIRE GARY BETTMAN!!!!!!!1000th post 1/20/2009 Sharks def. Canucks 2-1...2000th post 12/1/2009 Sharks def. Senators 5-2...World's Best Rock is at www.98kupd.com and www.kisw.com
Interesting, thanks for sharing ! It seems that Toronto is the city with the biggest number of players born, followed by Montreal. Wouldn't it be nice to have Brooks Orpik in teal ? Bay Area product and he isn't bad at all ! Well he's got a cup and it was last year so he should know what to do to get it again, but still, he can't play for the other players in the playoffs...
Edit : Wow... Paul Stastny is Quebec City's 8th best scorer, even though he is American... that's the problem with those ''born in'' though. His father doesn't live there anymore, only Anton/Marian, but they do own a restaurant there. Seen them a couple times there and I was surprised when I realized all three speak French. But young P.Stastny doesn't so really sometimes you have to be careful with ''born in''. Kolzig and Heatley are good examples too.

i figured there would be at least a couple.. especially with all the rugby players out there.. would be an easy transition toward hockey for the younger crowd..

Actually there is a fledgling ice hockey league here in Australia but it is mainly expats that play but there are a couple of half decent players, maybe one day well produce an NHL calibre player. If anyone remembers Sporkman, he used to follow the aussie icehockey more as there is more rinks on the east coast where he was.
Most guys prefer to play the field sports like Aussie rules football, rugby, soccer ect, our weather is more condusive to outdoor sports.
My old man played ice hockey in europe and then again when we immigrated here to perth when i was a kid (hence my interest in the sport) but the rink he played at has long since shut down, now there is only the one rink left.

hmm that sucks.. time for some european hockey coaches to go to aussieland and crack the whip and make some hockey players out of some of those rugby players.. who knows maybe it will peak some interest over there and gain in popularity.. i mean sure the weather makes it nice for field sports.. but when its 100F+(38C+) would you rather be watching rugby? or sitting in a nice cool hockey arena? lol
